Natural Home-made Gifts

As seen on Nataniël‘s “Terwyl Ek Wag” KykNET TV series.

Help save our planet and experience the thrill of making these all natural home products for yourself and your loved ones!  Each of these recipes have been tried, tested and are used in our own homes!  The verdict:  We LOVE it!

These are the perfect gifts for kitchen teas or pamper parties, or just any occasion that calls for a personalised gift. Or just make it for yourself.

We used raw, organic ingredients and glass containers as far as possible. Recipes have been simplified to keep the ingredients to the minimum and cost-effective.

Use these recipes as a guideline and add your favourite aromatherapy oils or herbs – it’s fun to experiment to find your personal favourite aromatic combinations, or for different people and seasons.

HAND CREAM

This is more a balm than a cream. Melting on your skin, it is super luxurious and fast absorbing. Soothing for dry skin. Use all over your body!

1/2 cup Shea Butter (raw organic)

1/2 cup Coconut Oil (raw organic)

15 drops Aromatherapy Oil of your choice (our favourite for the recipe:  Rose Geranium)

Melt the butter and oil together in a double boiler (glass bowl over lightly bowling water on stove top). Let it cool down for 2 minutes while stirring it. Mix your aromatherapy oils in. Decant into a glass jar. Leave in fridge for about 3-5 hours to cool down completely. Use within 6 months.

BATH SALT

This is so easy to make!  Soothe tired muscles and revive dry skin by soaking in this natural aromatic bath.

1 1/2 cups Epsom Salt

3/4 cup Himalaya Salt or coarse Sea Salt

1/4 cup Baking Soda

20 drops Aromatherapy Oils of your choice (our favourite for this recipe:  Bergamot & Patchouli)

2 table spoons Dried Herbs, eg. Rosemary or Flower Petals (we used Rose Petals)

Mix all the ingredients and store in a glass jar. Scoop one cup in your bath. Use within 6 months.

ROOM AND LINEN SPRAY

Add any aromatherapy oils of your choice – play around until you find your favourite combination.

150 ml Distilled Water

50 ml Vodka or Witch Hazel

80 – 100 drops Aromatherapy Oils, eg. Lavender, Lemon, Peppermint, Eucalyptus, Sandalwood, Frankincense, Ylang Ylang … (we used Eucalyptus, Peppermint & Frankincense – 30 drops of each)

Mix vodka/witchhazel and water in ’n glass spray bottle. Add oils and shake well before each use.

ALL-PURPOSE CLEANING SPRAY

This spray is antiseptic, antibacterial and antifungal. It has a fresh natural aroma and perfect to use on all kinds of surfaces to clean and disinfect.

1 part White Vinegar

1 part Water

Lemon Peel

Rosemary Twigs

10 drops Tea Tree or Lemon Aromatherapy Oil

Combine all the ingredients in a glass spray bottle, shake well and let it stand for a week before the first use.

MOTH REPELLANT

This is a great alternative for cedar wood blocks.

Dried herbs eg. Rosemary, Thyme, Sage, Peppermint, Cloves, Bay Leaves

Dried Rose Petals

Dried Lemon Peel

Lavender Aromatherapy Oil

Dry herbs, leaves and lemon peel. Put in a linen or muslin bag, add a few Lavender Oil drops, tie it close and leave in your cupboard/drawers. It’s time to replace it when the aroma has dissipated.

  • Educate yourself on the properties, uses and contraindications of aromatherapy oils.
  • Only used sterilised containers.
