Planning a Year End Function

Planning a Year End Function

As we approach the end of the year you might want to start planning a year end function.  This is an opportunity to really spoil your team.  By getting an early start, you can begin to get them excited for a fabulous function that will make the year’s hard work all worthwhile.

When planning a year end function it does not have to be another boring corporate event. This is really an opportunity to break the mould, surprise and entertain!  It can also include an awards ceremony, lucky draw prizes and so much more. Opt for a themed event and you will have your company bonding over discussions about outfits and accessories.

Planning a year end function should not be left to the last minute, so start sooner rather than later.

Here are some things to consider when planning a year end function:

  • Budget – Set this early to avoid a headache later in the year.
  • Who will you invite – Staff, Clients, plus ones….?
  • Pick a date – The normal time for a company year end party is in the first two weeks of December, but this is not a set rule. Choose a few dates to present to prospective venues.
  • Invitations – These should be sent out earlier and include all the details about date, venue and dress code.
  • Venue – There are so many venue options to choose from and your event planner can help with your final selection.  The venue you choose will inevitably be determined by the size of event and budget.

Contact us for an initial discussion about your ideas and budget and let us come up with some great concepts.  The Event Planners will handle all event management on your behalf, from conceptualisation to execution.

Couple

Anicia and Nikola

Venue

Nooitgedacht Wine Estate, Stellenbosch

About the day

When an adventurous South African girl and a Serbian guy decide to get married (and you are lucky to get invited!), be assured it will be one of the most incredible celebrations you will experience. Anicia and Nikola both work as cabin crew for Emirates and met on a flight to Cape Town in 2015. It was not long before Nikola proposed in the Maldives on Anicia’s birthday in the most romantic way (a private candle lit dinner followed by a treasure hunt on the beach…). We are privileged to plan weddings for the best people and seeing how much love and pure happiness there are between couples such as Anicia and Nikola makes us smile for days. We hope you continue your journey and stay in love just the way you are!

From the couple

“For years and years to come our hearts will still smile at how perfect our wedding day was. What an absolute blessing it was to work with you, Madri and Niki. Your professionalism, kind heartedness and passion for the work you do really showed from day one till the very last minute of our wedding day. It was such a pleasure to have you on this journey with us, and not mention the amount of “bridal stress” you just lifted off our shoulders. Thank you cannot express enough the gratitude and gratefulness we have for the work you’ve done for us. Many many many thanks!“

Best Places to Propose in Cape Town

Best places to propose in Cape Town

Cape Town is not just renowned for world class weddings, it is also a very popular choice for those ready to pop the big question.  Whether your dream proposal includes a helicopter flip or a quiet picnic in one of Cape Town’s beautiful gardens or forests, we can help you plan all the details.

The first thing to do is pick the perfect spot, so we have compiled a short list to help you get started.

Propose on a winefarm

You are spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing a wine farm for your proposal.  You could choose to follow your tastebuds and pick a farm that produces your favourite wine or choose an area and narrow it down from there.  With wineries in both the Southern and Northern Suburbs and stretching out towards Stellenbosch and Franshhoek, you are sure to find the right location.  We recently planned a proposal that took place at Lothian House in the Elgin Valley, which included a helicopter flight from the V&A Waterfront.  See more here.

Propose at the beach

To stand on a stretch of beach with Table Mountain as your backdrop is pretty spectacular!  It’s a timeless image that captures the beauty and romance of the city.

Propose with a picnic in the park

Take a stroll through Tokai Forest or Kirstenbosch Gardens and arrive at your pre-planned picnic spot where you drop on one knee.  A gourmet picnic basket has been prepared along with a bottle of bubbly and a photographer waiting to capture the moment.

Propose on Table Mountain

What can be more perfect than a cable car ride to the top of Table Mountain to ask the ‘big question’.

Propose at a 5 star restaurant

Cape Town boasts a number of restaurants with insanely romantic views of beaches, mountains or vineyards.  Let us help you choose the best spot.  See the proposal we planned for a very special couple at Twelve Apostles here.

The venue at Zeitz MOCAA, Cape Town

About the event

It was an honour to coordinate this 40th birthday celebration at Zeitz MOCAA for Mooketsi Mogoe.  A true gentleman and proud family man.  Majority of the guests flew into Cape Town for the event and it was obvious that he is well loved and respected by his family and peers.
The 6th floor restaurant at the Zeitz MOCAA was a perfect fit for this glamorous affair and is all you could ask for and more when it comes to showing off the best of Cape Town, with it’s edgy decor, spectacular view and world class menu.  Combine this with the sounds of the Ike Moriz jazz band over dinner and the funky DJ sounds of DJ Rene for the afterparty, it was a night to remember!

From the client

“A night full of nothing but beauty and love.  The Mogoe family would like to thank you for every tiny detail and impeccable efforts.  You made the entire process fun and everything was just perfect.  The event went off without even a flaw.  Gratitude is all we have for one enchanting night, that we will remember forever.”  Mooketsi
Thank you for trusting us from afar to help you host the celebration of this milestone in your life.  May your life continue to be blessed.

A Wedding at Olive Rock

A Wedding at Olive Rock

After spending the last few years working aboard luxury yachts, Michelle and Stéfan returned to South Africa and chose to celebrate their wedding day at Olive Rock in Wolseley, before setting off on their next adventure.

It was just such a joy to work with this spontaneous, fun-loving couple to create their perfect wedding day.  The focus was on good food, friends and entertainment – a winning formula!  Michelle looked insanely beautiful in her Calegra dress and her ever present, million dollar smile.

Being a chef himself, Stéfan took on the responsibility of the wedding cake and desserts, no small task, but brilliantly done.  Have a look out for the custom cake toppers in honour of two missing guests.

One of the highlights of the wedding was the dinner entertainment – live music by Werner Denner, Man with Music.  This set the mood for the rest of the evening, a night of laughter and dancing (including some epic line dance moves!)

A Wedding in Plettenberg Bay II

A Wedding in Plettenberg Bay II

Remember Suzanne and Gerhard’s beautiful winter wedding in Plettenberg Bay we published a while back?  If you missed it, find it here.  Well, this is Part II.  We had to split their wedding into two blog posts because we just could not get enough of the way Adel Ferreira captured this magical wedding!

The wedding has also been featured in Wedding Inspirations Magazine’s Autumn 2017 edition.  Watch their wedding film here!

This is how the bride describes the best part of their wedding day:  “The celebration!  Having all our friends in one room, as we are from different parts of the country and currently live in Cape Town, so it was incredibly special for us to share it with all the important people in our lives.”

And her advice to future brides and grooms?  “Relax.  If you’ve done your research well when choosing your service providers, you should be able to trust them completely.  Focus on the look and feel of the wedding you want rather than obsessing over the finer details.  As your service providers are experts in their fields, give them some creative freedom – you’ll be amazed by the results.  Work on a budget before you start figuring out any details to eliminate a lot of heartache later.  And get a wedding planner – it made all the difference.  I enjoyed every second of the day, including the build-up, and Niki from The Event Planners was a big part of it!”

A Summer Wedding in Tulbagh

A Summer Wedding  in Tulbagh

Janet and Henri are both South African, residing in Trondheim, Norway.  They decided to celebrate their summer wedding in Tulbagh at Montpellier, one of our favourite wine estates with its Cape Dutch Manor House, dreamy chapel on a hill, endless rolling vineyards, lawns, gardens, hidden paths and tree-lined walkways.  So, we were more than delighted when they chose us to plan their special day in this amazing setting.  Many lengthy Skype calls between Trondheim and Cape Town (over several months) later and here you have the result!

Janet and Henri’s guests were transported up to the chapel by the farm’s truck, welcomed by ice cold bottled water.  The Montpellier chapel is one of the farm’s most beautiful landmarks with stunning views over the vineyards and surrounding mountains and its breathtaking interior.  It was a sultry hot December day, and the cold water and cool breeze blowing through the chapel’s windows were welcoming and refreshing…  Pre-drinks and canapé’s were served on the lawn in front of the Manor House with Werner Denner entertaining guests with live instrumental music.

The reception was held in the farm’s famous dome cathedral, a wine cellar lined with wine barrels and bottles from floor to ceiling.  Janet and Henri fell in love with the venue the way it is and opt for natural, earthy and indigenous floral touches.

We are absolutely in love with their wedding photos by Charl from Agape Studio.  Enjoy them and scroll down for the list of service providers without whom this day would not have been possible.

A Summer Garden Wedding

A Summer Garden Wedding

Late last year we had the privilege to coordinate Jade and Brad’s summer garden wedding – a delightful morning ceremony followed by canapé’s around the pool and lunch on the terrace.  The venue:  hidden gem Ibis House in the Constantia Valley, which we grew to love so much! This superb Cape colonial villa is set on seven acres of lush private garden.  A network of ponds and streams run the length of the property creating a truly magical atmosphere. Jade and Brad are both South African, but recently relocated to London to pursue their careers.

The highlights of the wedding?  Jade’s incredible dress (have you seen the back?).  She has a thing for bows.  The giant floral heart suspended from the tree at the ceremony by Flowers in the Foyer.  The ceremony walk-in song!  The couple chose Everlong by the Foo Fighters, beautifully performed live by Kai Liam Connor with vocals on guitar – the most mellow and romantic version of the song you will ever hear.  The food.  Salt and Pepper Catering outdid themselves as usual and served the perfect al fresco lunch silver service style.  James’ Chargrilled Beef Fillet with Bearnaise sauce and Fillet of Norwegian Salmon with Salsa Verdi were the highlights.

Once in a while you come across a wedding which has a secret ingredient, it’s a synergy of real love, laughter, togetherness, true happiness and a focus on the things that are really important.  This was one of them.

Jade and Brad are made for each other and we are so grateful to have been part of their wedding journey!

Wolfkop Styled Wedding Shoot

A few weeks ago we hand-picked some of the wedding industry’s top suppliers to assist us with a shoot.  The aim:  to promote Wolfkop Nature Reserve and Camping Villages as a destination wedding venue for the “free-spirited” bride and groom (go like and follow them on Facebook to stay up to date with all things “free” and “spirited”!).

Lying 5km from Citrusdal, at the foothills of the CederbergWolfkop is a 450ha reserve featuring privately appointed cottages and camping village. It’s the ideal weekend wedding venue for the free spirited bride and groom, who want to spoil their guests with a unique weekend get-away. Wolfkop can accommodate from 60 to 160 guests with accommodation and venue in a comfortable Bedouin tent “village”.

The farm also boasts with four luxury cottages, each individually decorated. Queen-size beds with cotton percale bedding, an indoor and outdoor hot shower, an open-plan, well equipped kitchen (including fresh orange juice in season and fresh coffee beans and grinder for the perfect cuppa!), your own private jacuzzi and fireplace.

Farm activities include mind boggling hiking trails, swimming, fly-fishing and braai areas at the dam.

Carla, from BlueCheri Photography suggested we make the absolute best of the late afternoon and early morning light on the Citrusdal farm and so our adventure turned into a stay-over.  Nobody complained.  After 100’s of (it felt) emails and nail-biting challenges, we finally set a date that suited the whole team for our two day adventure.  Everyone went out of their way  to take part in this shoot.  Our models and hair-and make-up artist, Rina Viljoen, had to get up at 3:30 am to be ready at 06:00 for the first light on the second day!  The dresses from Alana van Heerden were absolutely exquisite and suited our “bride”, model Kim, as if they were made for her (without a fitting!). Thanks Marcel, for making Wolfkop and the models even more breath-taking.

Our team left the farm refreshed, having experienced the truly beautiful African sunset over the mountain and sunrise in the orange groves.  The crisp fresh air and natural beauty of the valley will have us going back for more very soon…

It was a pleasure working alongside some of the top wedding industry professionals, without egos, with only one aim:  to create beauty stripped of pretence, just like Wolfkop.

Good things come to those who wait patiently… see for yourself.
